Sherwood Park Crusaders forward Jeremy Loranger, Trail Smoke Eaters forward Judah Makway and Chilliwack Chiefs forward Mateo Mrsic have been named the FortisBC 3 Stars of the Month.
1st Star – Jeremy Loranger (F) – Sherwood Park Crusaders
Loranger led all BCHL players with 16 points last month, in just six contests, averaging 2.67 points per game.
After being held off the score sheet in his first December game, the University of Nebraska-Omaha commit had points in five straight and multi-point outings on four separate occasions. In his final three games of the month, he had 12 points.
His biggest performances came in a Dec. 14 win over the Okotoks Oilers where he put up a goal and four assists for a season-best five points, as well as a two-goal, two-assist night on Dec. 21 in an overtime win against the Spruce Grove Saints.
Loranger is the BCHL’s leading scorer with 54 points in 30 games. His 34 helpers are tied for the most in the league, while his 20 goals are tied for third and just two back of top spot.
2nd Star – Judah Makway (F) – Trail Smoke Eaters
Makway finished December averaging exactly two points per game with 14 in seven contests and led all BCHL players with eight goals during the month.
Trail’s hometown product registered a point in every game in December, including multi-point outings in four contests. Makway collected a career-best four points, all assists, in a Dec. 6 win over the Blackfalds Bulldogs, then put up a pair of goals and another helper in a three-point outing in a rematch with Blackfalds on Dec. 14.
Makway leads the Smoke Eaters with 29 points in 31 games this season and is also tied for the team lead in goals with 15.
3rd Star – Mateo Mrsic (F) – Chilliwack Chiefs
Mrsic picked up 12 points in six games last month on three goals and nine assists.
The fourth-year BCHL veteran had at least a point in five of six December contests, including three games where he collected at least three points.
On Dec. 13, Mrsic had a goal and three assists and was named first star of the game in Chilliwack’s 6-3 road win over the Powell River Kings. Earlier in the month, he picked up a goal and two assists in a win over the Langley Rivermen, then also had a trio of helpers in a Dec. 27 victory over the Victoria Grizzlies.
With his team sitting in first place in the Coastal Conference, Mrsic is the league’s fourth-leading scorer with 39 points in 29 games and the second-leading goal scorer with 21 on the season.
